Problems with Pest Wildlife? Correct The Following Conditions.

pest wildlife

    • Access under building. Raccoons, opossums, and skunks will use accessible crawlspaces under buildings and trailers as denning sites and hiding places during the day.
    • Berries. Deer, raccoons, opossums, squirrels, foxes, and skunks feed on berries, primarily in late summer and in the fall.
    • Branch piles/debris. Opossums and, to a lesser extent, raccoons and foxes may use branch piles and debris as a shelter or a denning site.
    • Skunks and foxes may nest in abandoned Woodchuck (groundhog) burrows.  Opossums may nest in abandoned woodchuck   or rodent burrows.  They also love to shelter in and under piles of branches.
    • Compost piles. Both raccoons and opossums will be attracted to compost piles if vegetables and other foods are layered there.
    • Fascia/soffit damage. Squirrels (often) and opossums and raccoons (on occasion) will gain access to attics through damaged fascia boards and soffits.
    • Fruit trees. Deer, raccoons, opossums, squirrels, foxes, and skunks feed on fruit, primarily in late summer and in the fall.
    • Missing/damaged chimney cap. Raccoons commonly enter accessible chimneys to rest during the day, and on occasion will use a chimney as a denning site, particularly in spring.
    • Nut trees. Raccoons and squirrels feed on nuts, primarily in late summer and in the fall.
    • Open dumpster. Raccoons, in particular, but also opossums and squirrels, enter dumpsters for food.
    • Overgrown plants/weeds. These provide shelter and cover for wildlife foraging for food near occupied areas.  They also contribute to wildlife nesting near buildings.
    • Shrubbery against building. Opossums and raccoons can travel hidden in protected corridors between tall, thick shrubbery and building walls.  Squirrels can use tall shrubbery touching a building as a route of access onto and into the building.
    • Siding damage. Squirrels, Opossums, and raccoons may gain access to crawls or attics through damaged siding.experienced wildlife pest control
    • Spilled bird seed. Seeds are high energy foods.  Sunflower seeds, in particular, are a favorite food of squirrels, raccoons, and Opossums, and these three animals will often make bird feeders in an area a regular foraging stop.
    • Spilled trash. Food in spilled trash around dumpsters, trash receptacles, picnic tables and the like can provide food for opossums, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, and occasionally deer.

  • Stacked building materials. Opossums and, to a lesser extent, raccoons and skunks may use stacked building materials as a shelter or denning area.
  • Torn screens, damaged walls, etc. Squirrels, Opossums, skunks, and raccoons may gain access to buildings through damaged screens, holes in walls, etc.
  • Trash receptacles that are not wildlife-proof. Open-topped trash receptacles, or those with lids not secured, provide food for raccoons, opossums, and squirrels.
  • Tree branches touching roof. Squirrels will use tree branches as a regular highway onto, and sometimes ultimately into, buildings if the branches are touching the building or are within a few feet (in rare cases up to six feet) of the building.
  • Tree holes. Squirrels will seek out any trees with holes that can be used as nest sites.
