Pests In Your Garage

Your garage may have secret hiding places that are attractive to undesired insects and wildlife. From ants, spiders, and roaches, to rodents, raccoons, and birds, your garage may be harboring pests that you are unaware of, and when pests become comfortable living in your garage, it’s
only a matter of time before they move into your house. Spring is the right time to take action to ensure your home remains pest free. Here is a list of steps for you to follow to do your part in keeping your garage pest free by eliminating the places where pests like to hide:

Step One: Clean your garage. Remember your grandmother’s annual spring cleaning event? Dust piles in the corners of your garage make great places for pests to seek cover. Make an effort to clean and sweep out your garage at least once a month. If you are keeping your garage clean,
then you are helping eliminate the pest population.

Step Two: Put up shelves. Properly storing items off the floor will prevent them from being ruined by the occasional pest that might get in your garage. Be sure to store items in plastic, airtight containers. That way, your belongings will stay preserved and harmful critters will not be
able to crawl inside.

Step Three: Weatherproof your garage. If you see light coming in at the bottom of your garage door, there is an opportunity for bugs to come inside. Install some sort of weather stripping on the bottom of your door to make sure it’s closed up.

Step Four: Seal up the cracks. Look for holes or small cracks that are around the sides of your garage and seal them up the best you can. The biggest crack of all is the door itself. Keep your garage door closed at all times. Doing so will remove entry points for rodents, snakes, and birds.

Step Five: Keep garbage cans sealed. Unsealed garbage and food is an invitation to pests and animals that are looking for food. Avoid using plastic bags to store garbage. It’s best to keep garbage in closed containers to keep pests out.

Step Six: Call a professional. This is the most important step. Consult with a professional pest management company to inspect your garage for overlooked spaces and places that attract pests into your garage.
